Summary
I suppose it's Harrison Ford's movie, but I would have liked to have seen more of River Phoenix in it. He was a serious cutie in his day, and I instantly thought this would be a great film to watch. But also, with all the hype surrounding The Da Vinci Code at the book, this movie features the Holy Grail, and I pretty much have NO idea what it is, so decided I might actually learn something for once from a film.
I've always promised myself I'll never watch a Bond film. But in my head, Indiana has always been more macho than Bond and there was even a joke once that Bond was allegedly supposed to be Indiana's dad. Hence the reason why they bring in a former Bond (Sean Connery) to play his dad. "Junior!" (There's also a former Bond girl, Alison Doody.)
To me, this is the best of the Indiana films so far. It's got a catchy storyline, pays more attention to characterisation, it's got some fantastic special effects, it's funny, and the rats gave me the creeps. Therefore, memorable. There's also one particularly memorable scene towards the end where the guy ages spectacularly fast, and was also the first all-digital composite. It's actually really creepy, and since I was scared of Christopher Lloyd's character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I had a major flashback to this. I'm easily scared!
I'm starting to like Harrison Ford more now, than in the previous movies too. There's just something different than in the previous films, but it could have been the brilliant chemistry he had with his 'father' Sean Connery. How funny are these guys together? "Junior!" And then the revelation about his true name being Henry Jones, Jr. In the previous two films he has only been referred to as "Indiana Jones" and the variations. But it's only in the last minutes of this that it's revealed.
If there's anyone old enough :) that remembers the TV show, The Young Ones, this also stars Alexi Sayle, who was a former star on that. And no I'm not old enough to remember it! But have had the 'pleasure' of watching it.
Definitely the best of the Indy films, and worth watching.
